Thanks! I've had to stop myself from reading the book itself just to enjoy the comics fresh when they come in. It's pretty darn hard cuz the kids keep pulling it out of the cabinet! :D But seriously I do want to come to it feeling fresh. I really can't wait to get them...couple more weeks from now. And I'm gonna get almost all of the issues from both series' so that is going to be one good sized box or bag! I really can't wait. :)

That Awesome Universe Handbook was great except for those scary Alex Ross redesigns. I really didn't like those. Glad they never happened in the regular comics.

Moore's Glory was pretty cool too, but it didn't seem to have the "wow!" factor of the others. It was a really good interim series while waiting for the ABC stuff to start though. Just a shame I didn't like that stuff much.

Original Superboy has always been my hero. His adventures were fun and he had an invincible dog in a cape! What more could a kid wish for? (Speaking of wishes, I wish Mattel would do a figure of him...)

Invincible had potential (loved the designs and art!) but the story was way too limp and empty for me. All-Star Superman was a different kettle o' fish. That, much like Moore's second Supreme run, felt a bit too cynical and heartless at times. Almost like it was a spoof with cool new concepts rather than a proper adventure. And the ending lost me completely. :/

Also forgot to mentioned that I also like the original Superboy. I used to buy that series. It's strange, up untl John Byrne's Superman revamp, I was actually a bigger fan of Superboy than Superman. And it was mentioning my love for that old series on Millarworld years ago, that someone suggested that I should try out Robert Kirkman's Invincible, saying it was a similar type of book. So I did, and I loved it.

And, considering your love for Supreme, not to mention Morrison's JLA, I'm even more surprised for your lack of enthusiasm for All-Star Superman.

I am with you on Alan Moore's Youngblood and Supreme. To me, Supreme was fascinating in that it was like the complete opposite of Moore's Miracleman. In MM he totally deconstructed the silliness of Silver Age superhero comics, and showed how that wouldn't work, while in Supreme he totally embraced the silliness of Silver Age comics, and made it work. Brilliant.

Similarly, his Youngblood had lots of potential. I've got Alan Moore's Awesome Universe Handbook, where he outlines his ideas for the first year of Youngblood (& Glory) and it would have been, well, awesome, if he had completed it. I've got the 2 issues, and Awesome Adventures #1, plus some special convention issue, which has the original short story + a Twilight origin story. And I also have all of Judgment Day. It was really fun stuff. The original year of Tom Strong was in a similar vein, but then that seemed to go off track.

If it isn't then it's a crime! That run was brilliant, even with Scott Lobdell's murky writing!

Bachalo and Buckingham got better with each issue, too. It was really edgy at the time.

Loved Morrison's JLA as well. Got hyped for Generation X with the 4 parter that introduced them in the regular X-Men titles but only ever managed to get Generation X #1 from their series. I wonder if any of that is collected in trades?
